Good Use for Yellow Pages
I came across these articles recently “The Yellow Pages – Who Wants Those Things?” and “More Evidence That Yellow Books are Dying”. There was a list of 16 once-common items, that were made obsolete in 2000s, and the phone books were mentioned at number12. Author was also saying that phone books are now used to start fires and as doorstops. Well, that reminded me of how I used Yellow Pages this summer.
I had to move in July. I also had to buy everything from furniture to cutlery. So you can say it was an expensive move.
I just bought a new mattress and was looking to buy a bed, when I realized that nothing would fit into my tiny bedroom. The problem was that there was this concrete pillar in the corner, taking precious space. Basically, my queen size mattress would fit as is, without a base. I was considering to buy a second mattress, that would serve as a base, when my brother came up with a genius idea of using phone books to raise the bed.
At that time, they were just dropped in every lobby of every building, so it wasn’t hard to get 24 books at once. That’s how many we needed to set the base. We taped them with scotch tape and everything worked like a charm.

Yeap, that’s how we use Yellow Pages in Canada.
Not only I’ve raised my bed to the level I wanted, I also saved about $300-400 by not buying a metal base, that I was originally planning to buy.
So here is how the final product looks like.

What an inspiring creativity! Now I know how I can use old collectible “Automobile” magazines my boyfriend is keeping for years! Thank you for a tip!
