Lady in Russia Gives Birth to 10 Healthy Babies
If 8 babies born at once called Octuplets. What do you call 10 babies born at once?
According to the video posted on one of the Russian sites, lady in Kursk walked into the hospital #6 on December 7th 2009 with a huge belly and delivered 10 healthy babies.
She didn’t have any medical records with her and, apparently, didn’t even visit doctors during her pregnancy.
Medical staff at the hospital were stunned, as they were pulling baby after baby, without knowing how many are still left. No ex-rays were done, so even the mother wasn’t aware that she was carrying 10 babies inside of her.
All babies were born absolutely healthy and not prematurely. The smallest baby was 2.5 kg, others were 3 – 3.1 – 3.2 kg.

Mother Irina is also healthy and appears to be happy. She already gave names to all her babies, though she still gets confused with names. All her extended family is flying in from different parts of Kurs region to help her with looking after newborns.

Stunned doctors talk about delivering 10 babies at once, something they haven't done before.
However, the father of 10 babies didn’t take the news well. He came to the hospital only once asking if it’s a boy or a girl. When he learned that it actually 5 boys and 5 girls, he collapsed. Doctors had to work on him for a while, until he regained consciousness. Nobody has seen him since. I suspect shocked father is somewhere drinking heavily – that’s how Russian men usually cope with all life problems.
Interestingly, no major media outlets have expressed interest in this story. Kursk hospital is only getting phone calls from other hospitals. Doctors are still puzzled how 10 healthy babies could fit in the woman’s womb, that is technically made to carry only one child at a time. Also, when women give birth to more than 3 babies, that number is usually artificially enhanced through “in vitro fertilisation”. Multiple pregnancies like that usually come with a lot of complications, but not in this case. Interesting indeed.
