Planning a Road Trip

Planning a Road Trip

I’ve never been on a real road trip, so I am pretty excited about my upcoming trip to East Coast. Me, my brother and my girlfriend decided to explore Eastern Canada, as none of us have been there before.

Our end goal is to reach Cape Breton, Nova Scotia and to do some hiking on the Cabot Trail. That place looks amazing, well at least, on the pictures. I’ll be able to confirm that soon.

We spent a few hours at the Internet Cafe yesterday deciding on the exact route that we’ll take there. The challenge is to plan it out in such a way that we could see a lot of places in a few days.

We are going there on July’s long weekend, so all together that’s about 4 days and 4 nights – not much time, considering it’s about 24 hrs drive one way. Even with 3 drivers, it’s still a lot of driving and we might have to stop overnight somewhere near Moncton area, and get some rest.

We were joking, if we brought enough food in the car and used diapers to avoid rest stops, like that astronaut chick, maybe we could do it non-stop and prove it’s possible. Ha ha…

Thank god for GPS, iPhones and Google Maps. Mapping out a driving route wasn’t actually too bad. It took us about half an hour to create a map on Google Maps with all the stops. You can create your own map by dragging points on the map and adding as many stops along the way, as you want. You can then save your map to “My Maps” and email it to your friends. If you click on “More” link at the top right corner, you can enable images, videos etc. to be shown on top of the map. That’s a very useful feature, as you can get an idea of how the area looks like.

Off to do more packing!
